Serves as the Director at the San Diego National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – National Weather Service forecast office.
Received numerous awards including both gold and silver medals for meritorious service from the United States Department of Commerce.
Appeared as a weather expert on various local and national news programs as well as documentaries on The Weather Channel, The Learning Channel, and The History Channel.
Earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Northern Illinois University and a second Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Developed an interest in weather as a direct result of the April 21, 1967, Oak Lawn tornado. As a consequence, he spent fifteen years in Oklahoma training thousands of volunteer observers to spot and report tornadoes and other severe storms
